Travel itineraries vary from person to person, but for a travel agenda that has music on the mind, the southeastern United States, most commonly referred to as “The South,” is a key region. This part of the country is noted for having a very different culture with its music being a major contributing factor.
In fact, the roots of the rock genre are traced back to the southeastern United States where the first significant figures in this music scene began their careers. The following cities should be on the travel route for any travelling musician, music enthusiast, or any individual who wants to catch a few good shows.
Austin, TX
Deemed the “Live Music Capital of the World,” any mentioning of Austin induces and automatic association with a strong live music scene. Having more venues per capita than any other American city, this city is a must for exploring music culture. While 6th Street has been the center of this vibrant melodic landscape, live music spots are found all throughout the city including South Congress (SoCo), the Drag, and the east side of I-35.
