In property law, an injunction is a specific order from the court to the losing party. The injunction requires the losing party to do something or to stop doing something. By contrast, damages are money amounts paid to compensate the plaintiff for whatever he lost due to the defendant doing or not-doing something.
While most civil law cases are resolved with damages, some cases involving property rights or property ownership prefer to solve the problem by granting an injunction rather than by paying the plaintiff. For example, in cases of property encroachment, the plaintiff will almost always receive an injunction forcing the defendant to tear down whatever building is encroaching onto the plaintiff's land.
